One factory, every part

Every lens we sell is designed, machined, assembled and tested in one factory in Aizu, Fukushima. Not the final assembly — all of it. The glass is ground here, the barrels are turned here, the coatings are applied here, and the person who checks a lens before it is boxed has usually been doing so for twenty years.

We do this because it is the only way we know to be responsible for the result. A lens is a promise about the next thirty years of somebody's photographs, and we would rather make that promise ourselves.
